On the morning of October 23, Academician Bao Gang, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Provincial Distinguished Expert, was invited to deliver a lecture as part of our university's Distinguished Scholars Lecture Series. He gave a special report to teachers and students of our school themedMathematical Inverse Problems for Precision Detection.

Jiao Yong, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, attended the lecture. More than 200 teachers and student representatives from the school listened to the report on site. The event was presided over by Hu Yuxi, Party Secretary of the School.

Jiao Yong gave a comprehensive introduction to Academician Bao Gang’s outstanding achievements in computational and applied mathematics, extended sincere gratitude to him for his visit and academic guidance, and presented a commemorative plaque to the academician.

Academician Bao Gang elaborated on the wide application of precision detection technology in fields such as resource exploration, medical imaging and deep earth exploration, and pointed out that mathematical and physical inverse problems serve as the core fundamental issue in detection science. Starting from key mathematical theories including the uniqueness and stability of inverse problems, he introduced typical applications such as the Radon transform, electrical impedance tomography, and wave equation inversion. He also shared innovative achievements of his research team in efficient algorithms and the application of deep learning.

Looking ahead to the development of precision detection in cutting-edge fields like deep earth resource exploration and micro-nano imaging, he emphasized that research in mathematics and algorithms constitutes a key pillar for advancing independent technological innovation. He encouraged young students to embrace their missions, engage in dedicated academic research, and contribute their wisdom and strength to achieving high-level self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology.

During the interactive session, teachers and students actively raised questions, which Academician Bao Gang answered in detail one by one, creating a warm and lively academic atmosphere.
